This is a rare opportunity to become a Climate Campaigner with the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF), an international organisation that exists to protect the natural world and defend our shared human right to a secure environment. EJF campaigns to protect climate refugees and for a swift, just transition to a zero-carbon world. We use investigations, filmmaking, detailed, insightful research, and strategic thinking to expose and reduce global heating and to protect communities most at risk from the climate crisis.

The Climate Campaigner will be ambitious, thoughtful, and passionate about defending our natural world, people and wildlife, and share our determination to end the climate crisis. This role is for you if you are an experienced, skilled and highly motivated campaigner with a minimum of 4 years in a similar role or with transferable skills that would suit this position. You must have outstanding research and analytical skills, communication and campaign skills. You have a creative mind able to turn strategic goals and ideas into action and long-term impact. You are a superb public speaker and communicator, who can inspire and influence change amongst public, corporate, and policy audiences.

This is a challenging but hugely rewarding and exciting role, with opportunities for career growth. You are well-suited to this position if you have the passion and determination to make a difference for people, biodiversity and the climate.

The Campaigner will:

  • Conduct research and advocacy at the highest levels of the Taiwanese government and international institutions, highlighting the connection between government investment and climate change, and campaign to secure the government’s commitment to divest from fossil fuels.
  • Research, investigate and report on core issues, including fossil fuel divestment and moves towards genuinely sustainable, equitable renewable energy solutions in Taiwan. The role will identify policy gaps and opportunities to drive swift action towards a zero-carbon economy, focusing on coal phase-out and support for renewable energy.
  • When required, work with EJF’s oceans team to develop strategies and policy-led actions on blue carbon, deep-sea mining and marine plastic pollution where these intersect with climate campaign priorities.
  • Produce materials including reports and briefings, digital news and other media, and support the creation of campaign films and communications messages to drive support for environmental, financial, political and technological solutions to the climate crisis.
  • Work creatively with EJF’s colleagues in the film, comms, research and campaign teams to optimise our strategic opportunities and impact.
  • Identify relevant stakeholders, including Taiwanese and international NGOs, research institutes and/or private sectors, to form a coalition that supports EJF’s advocacy and objectives.

Required skills and experience:

  • At least 4 years of professional experience in research, political advocacy, and strategy or equivalent.
  • Professional levels of English speaking and writing; native speaker level of Chinese. Ability to speak Taiwanese is desirable.
  • Educated to degree or post-graduate level in a relevant discipline.
  • A strong understanding of climate issues and relevant policy frameworks.
  • An outstanding researcher and superb writer able to produce high-quality, accurate materials accessible to diverse audiences in both Chinese and English.
  • Be a confident and persuasive communicator, with strong interpersonal skills and a flair for public speaking.
  • Be reliable, determined, creative, positive and resourceful.
  • A high level of self-motivation and ability to work independently to deliver campaign outputs, along with strong team-working skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to EJF’s Mission, Values and Vision.
